Our contributors are regular folks with varying degrees of experience with writing who have chosen to share their thoughts publicly.  We update this page with new contributors every time we receive new work.  Please send us your thoughts!

Peter Amos


Peter is a writer and musician from rural Virginia.  He is based in Queens where he reads, performs, writes, and screams into the void.  Peter writes about progressive and cultural politics and curates all contributions to "The Imagined Thing"

Ashley is an aspiring writer and policy wonk who lives and works in Virginia. She's navigating her 20s with the help of TV sitcoms, her cat Felix, and plenty of coffee.

John Amos

John Amos was born and raised in Central Virginia where he has taught high school English for thirty years.  He spends his time teaching, reading, writing, and golfing.

Betsy Amos

Betsy Amos lives and works in Central Virginia.  She is a quilting ninja, slavic language aficionado, and professional book connoisseur.

Tim Burns

Tim is an attorney who hails from Raleigh, NC, and considers himself a progressive Republican. He dreams of not losing week after week in Fantasy Football. Many times his dreams defy reality.

Carrie Cheatham

Carrie grew up in rural Virginia and lives now in the Richmond area with her husband and two dogs.  She is the proprietor of Snail Mail, where she designs and paints cards, the sale of which benefits Virginia's resettled refugees.

Jon Deavers

Jon is a real estate agent and musician in Richmond Virginia. He spends his evenings playing guitar and writing songs and his days helping people buy and sell homes.

Jonathan Dupuis

Jonathan is a stir-crazy, passionately curious, aspiring grown-up from Southeastern Virginia.  He writes about food, among other things.

b. ellis left Virginia dirt for NYC dirt to work in a therapeutic horticulture program for incarcerated teen boys; navigating the spaces between collective grief and hopeful action.

Alie Fruchterman

Alie is a musician and teacher living with her husband in Nashville and pursuing her master's degree in music.  She is one of the few people crazy enough to voluntarily spend most of their time teaching very very small children.

Leah Mueller

Leah Mueller is an indie writer and spoken word performer from Tacoma, Washington. She is the author of two chapbooks and four books. Her next book, "Misguided Behavior, Tales of Poor Life Choices" will be released by Czykmate Press in Autumn, 2018.

Monjula Ray

Monjula Ray is a PhD candidate with research interests in diversity and inclusion, and discrimination.  She is also a queer brown immigrant which informs her writing.

Ryan Sappington

Ryan is a PhD student in counseling psychology. When he's not seeing clients or reading/writing about sport and social justice, he’s spending time with his partner, fly fishing, or pretending he's still a soccer player

James Swindell

James Swindell is an arts administrator and ride-sharing driver currently residing in Arlington, Virginia. He is a member of the Arlington Young Democrats.

Hunter Weaver

Hunter is a reformed golfer in the Richmond area of Virginia.  If he knew how to describe himself, 99% of his problems would be solved.  We'll work on that.
